Frequently Asked Questions

What is TDS on salary?

Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) is income tax your employer deducts from your salary every month and deposits with the income tax department on your behalf. The amount is calculated on your estimated annual salary and can be adjusted at year-end when you file your return.

How much TDS will be deducted from my salary?

Your employer estimates your annual income, applies the tax slabs for your chosen regime (new or old), subtracts the standard deduction and any declarations you make (80C, 80D, HRA), and divides the annual tax by 12 to get the monthly TDS.

New or old regime for lower TDS?

If you claim many deductions like 80C, 80D or HRA, the old regime usually gives lower taxable income and TDS. Without those deductions the new regime's lower slabs often win. Use this calculator to compare both before choosing.

Can I reduce my monthly TDS?

Yes. Submit Form 12BB declarations for 80C, 80D, HRA and other allowances to your employer so they are factored into the monthly TDS. Higher TDS is refundable when you file your return, but reducing it keeps more cash in hand each month.
