Stateless by design
OpenTool is stateless and one-shot. There are no accounts, no saved results, and no progress tracking on our servers. Every visit to a tool starts fresh: nothing you type, upload, or generate is transmitted to us unless a tool explicitly runs server-side. The only per-device records are the tools you have marked as favorites and a short “recently used” list — both stored only in your browser, never on our servers.
Your files stay on your device
The vast majority of tools on this site run entirely in your browser. When you upload a PDF, image, or other file, it is processed locally with JavaScript and WebAssembly on your own device. Your files are never uploaded to our servers, and we cannot see, store, or access them.
Server-powered tools
A small number of tools (document conversions and AI chat) are processed by our server because they need capabilities a browser alone cannot provide. When you use these, the file is transmitted over an encrypted connection, processed, and then deleted immediately after the job completes. We do not retain, sell, or use your files for any other purpose.
What we store locally
The only things we store in your browser’s local storage are a few device preferences: your theme (light/dark), your language, your currency, your saved favorites, and a short “recently used” list of tools you have visited. We store no files, no tool inputs, and no results. These records never leave your browser and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser data.
Cookies and advertising
We display ads to keep the tools free. Third-party advertisers (such as Google AdSense) may use cookies or web beacons to serve relevant ads based on your prior visits. You can opt out of personalized advertising in your browser settings or via the advertiser’s own controls. We ourselves do not use cookies to track you across sites, and your files are never shared with advertisers.
Analytics
We collect anonymized, aggregate usage statistics (which pages are visited, approximate location, and device type) to understand what is useful. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
