Frequently Asked Questions

What is EMI?

EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is the fixed monthly amount you repay a lender, made up of principal and interest portions. It is identical every month over the loan tenure.

How does a down payment change my EMI?

The EMI is calculated only on the financed amount, so a larger down payment lowers your EMI and total interest. The total cost still includes the down payment itself plus any processing fee.

How is EMI calculated?

Using the formula EMI = P × r × (1+r)ⁿ / ((1+r)ⁿ − 1). P is the financed principal, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12), and n is the number of monthly installments.

How do prepayments help?

A lump-sum prepayment or a larger monthly payment goes straight to the principal, so it stops accruing interest immediately. This shortens the loan tenure and reduces the total interest paid, while keeping the regular EMI the same.
