Income Tax Calculator not working? Here's how to fix it

Most issues with the Income Tax Calculator are small and fixable in seconds. Work through these in order.

1. The tool won't load

Reload the page or open it in a fresh tab. If an extension blocks scripts, try private (incognito) mode — the calculator needs JavaScript, which is on by default in every modern browser.

2. The tax figure does not match your expectations

Check that you entered your gross income, not your take-home or in-hand salary. Most mismatches come from entering net pay, which already has deductions and TDS removed.

3. The old regime result looks too high

The old regime has higher slab rates, so it only wins when you claim enough deductions. Make sure you entered standard deduction, 80C, 80D, HRA, and any other exemptions you are entitled to.

4. The 87A rebate is not showing

The rebate only applies when your income tax before cess is within the Section 87A threshold. If your income is above the limit, no rebate is available so none is shown.

5. Your CA or employer got a different number

Employers may not yet reflect the latest regime choice, and CAs sometimes include additional head-of-household or surcharge calculations. Compare line by line — income, deductions, rebate, and cess — to spot the difference. Confirm your regime selection with your employer before filing.

Verdict

Nine out of ten issues with the Income Tax Calculator are solved by confirming you entered gross income and every eligible deduction.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my number differ from my CA?

Differences usually come from missing deductions, incorrect income entry, or a different regime assumption. Compare each line against your CA's working.

Why is no 87A rebate shown?

The rebate applies only when your income tax before cess is within the Section 87A threshold for the year.

Why does the old regime look too high?

The old regime has higher slabs and only wins with enough deductions. Verify you entered standard deduction, 80C, 80D, and HRA.
