PPF Calculator not working? Here's how to fix it

Most issues with the PPF Calculator are small and fixable in seconds. Work through these in order.

1. The tool won't load

Reload the page or open it in a fresh tab. If an extension blocks scripts, try private (incognito) mode — the calculator needs JavaScript, which is on by default in every modern browser.

2. The maturity amount does not match your passbook

The government can revise the PPF rate periodically. Check the current official rate — the calculator uses 7.1% per annum, but if the rate has changed since your deposits, the projection will differ slightly. Adjust the rate if your account earned a different figure.

3. The number looks too large

Recheck your annual contribution. If you entered a monthly figure into the annual field (or vice versa), the total inflates dramatically. Confirm you are entering the yearly deposit.

4. The interest seems too low

Interest on PPF accrues on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day of each month. Deposits made late in the month earn less interest that year, so your actual interest can trail a simple annual projection.

5. The result should include your existing balance

If you already hold a PPF account, add your current balance as the starting point, then model new contributions on top. Treating a fresh account for an existing balance will understate your maturity value.

Verdict

Nine out of ten issues with the PPF Calculator are solved by using the current 7.1% rate, entering annual (not monthly) contributions, and starting from your existing balance.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my maturity not match my passbook?

The PPF rate is revised periodically and interest accrues on balances between specific dates. Use the current rate and your actual balance for a closer estimate.

Why does the number look too large?

You may have entered a monthly contribution into the annual field. Confirm you entered the yearly deposit.

Can I include an existing PPF balance?

Yes. Add your current balance as the starting point and model new contributions on top for a more accurate maturity figure.
