EPF Calculator not working? Here's how to fix it

Most issues with the EPF Calculator are small and fixable in seconds. Work through these in order.

1. The tool won't load

Reload the page, or open it in a fresh tab. If an extension blocks scripts, try private (incognito) mode — the calculator needs JavaScript, which is on by default in every modern browser.

2. The corpus looks too small or too large

Check what you entered as the basis. EPF is calculated on monthly basic salary plus D.A., not your total CTC. If you entered your full CTC, the projection will be too high. Enter only the basic plus D.A. figure to match reality.

3. The interest seems wrong

Confirm you are using the current EPF rate of 8.25% per annum. If the tool is set to an older rate, or you entered a decimal in the wrong form, adjust it to the current 8.25% figure and redo the calculation.

4. The employer contribution looks high

Remember the employer's 12% is split — only the EPF-linked portion (3.67%) goes into your EPF balance, while 8.33% goes to the EPS pension. Your employer contribution in the result reflects just the EPF portion.

5. The result does not match your EPF passbook

Your passbook reflects actual monthly credits and the EPFO's interest crediting for each financial year, while the calculator projects an even monthly accrual. Transfers, salary revisions, and the EPS cap on 15,000 can cause differences. Treat the projection as an estimate.

Verdict

Nine out of ten issues with the EPF Calculator are solved by entering basic salary plus D.A., confirming the 8.25% rate, and remembering the employer's EPS split.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my projected corpus too high?

You are likely entering your full CTC instead of basic salary plus D.A. EPF contributions are calculated only on basic plus D.A.

Why does my result differ from my passbook?

The passbook records actual monthly credits and the EPFO's yearly interest. Salary changes, transfers, and the EPS cap cause differences from a smooth projection.

Why does the employer share look small?

The employer's 12% is split — 3.67% goes into EPF while 8.33% goes to the EPS pension account, so only the EPF-linked part shows in your balance.
