BMI Calculator: inputs and options

Because the BMI Calculator has no file upload, the "formats" here refer to the values and units you can enter. Getting these right ensures an accurate result.

Input fields

The calculator takes two numeric inputs:

InputMetric unitImperial unit
Heightmeters (m)feet and inches (ft/in)
Weightkilograms (kg)pounds (lbs)

Unit options

  • Metric — enter height in meters and weight in kilograms
  • Imperial — enter height in feet and inches and weight in pounds; the tool converts to metric internally

Number formats

  • Whole numbers and decimals are both accepted (e.g., 68, 68.5, 1.75)
  • Use a period (.) as the decimal separator
  • Entering unusual values (very low or very high) still produces a result, but check the category and range for context

Reading the results

Your result shows three things: the BMI value, the weight category, and the healthy weight range for your height. The category follows the WHO classification of underweight, normal, overweight, and obese.

Verdict

BMI Calculator keeps the inputs simple — two numbers and a unit choice — and returns everything you need to understand your weight status.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use metric units?

No. Choose imperial units to enter your height in feet and inches and your weight in pounds; the tool converts automatically.

Can I enter decimals for my height?

Yes, decimals are fully supported — for example 1.75 meters or 5.75 feet.

Is there any file or size limit?

No. BMI Calculator works with typed numbers only, so there is nothing to upload and no file limits.
